Fun Fact: Bruges’ Underground Beer Pipeline
In the heart of Bruges, the De Halve Maan Brewery (dating to 1564) solved a modern logistical problem in a truly Belgian way: it built the only beer pipeline in the world to transport its beer through the city underground to its bottling plant, avoiding heavy truck traffic in the medieval center. This 3.276 km buried pipeline carries thousands of liters of beer every hour — and though you can’t tap into it on the street, it’s one of Bruges’ most unusual urban engineering stories.
